SIMONE KESTELMAN Artist

Simone Kestelman is a multidisciplinary artist whose work serves as a visceral language for the unspeakable. Specializing in glass, ceramics, and photography, Kestelman translates universal themes—life, loss, and resilience—into "snapshots of the mind and soul."
Her practice is defined by a haunting duality. Through evocative juxtapositions, she transforms everyday objects into charged metaphors: a ceramic red balloon, a glass swing encased in barbed wire, or a footstool surfaced with razor blades. These works confront systemic violence—specifically against women and children—with a poetic restraint that invites viewers into a space of both discomfort and deep reflection.
Born in Niterói, Brazil, Kestelman’s artistic vocabulary was forged in the tension between her country's vibrant beauty and its underlying social inequalities. This perspective is further sharpened by her background in Economics, which informs her interrogation of power, injustice, and human vulnerability.
A humanist at heart, Kestelman’s recent large-scale installations explore mortality and inherited trauma, including the legacy of the Holocaust. Her work is a bridge between the intimate and the global, using the body—or its absence—to confront the scars of history.
